Writer in Residence Moving Online

As we can’t get together in libraries and school at the moment, I’m bringing my Residency with Monaghan County Libraries online.

Each Monday over the coming months I’ll share some videos on writing tools and techniques. I’ll give you an insight into what it’s like to be a professional writer and I’ll show you what it’s like in my writer’s room. I’ll also answer some of your questions about writing.

Watch the first of my videos on Facing the Blank Page here.

In this video I give you 4 steps for Facing the Blank Page. I debunk some myths about writing and show you how to invite inspiration into your daily life.

You also have the chance to submit some work each week and I’ll pick a selection to review and give feedback on.

Please send your submissions to writing@monaghancoco.ie - up to 10 pages of prose or script, or two poems.

I’m looking forward to reading some of your work.

Writer in Residence for Monaghan County Libraries

I’m delighted to be appointed Writer in Residence for Monaghan County Libraries for the next year, working with kids in libraries, schools and the community. I’m looking forward to having the chance to inspire them, to spark a discussion on the spirituality that runs through my writing, and to help them see and believe they can be whatever they want to be.

New Poem in Poetry Ireland Review

I’m delighted that my poem Torn will be featured in the next issue of Poetry Ireland Review, edited by the wonderful Eavan Boland. This is a new poem which will appear in my third collection.

Poetry Ireland Review was one of the first journals to publish one of my poems, and as I was staring out as a writer in Dublin Eavan’s poetry was an inspiration to me. Her work made me feel I could write about what was important to me and gave me permission to find my own voice.

Following the Cries of your Soul

Read my latest article in Network Ireland Magazine - Following the Cries of your Soul. Have you felt that yearning within you, that you know there’s something more, that you know you are more, but you don’t know how to get from here to there?

This is your soul calling to you, saying yes there is more, and if you listen to me I will show you the way.
